Dr. Alexander Mdzinarishvili, PhD

Assistant Professor

Dr. Alexander Mdzinarishvili earned his BS degree in Biology (1980) and MS degree in Physiology (1985) in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia. He received his PhD in Pharmacology/Physiology (1990) in Moscow, Russia.

From 2001-2003, Dr. Mdzinarishvili accomplished his first postdoctoral training as a Research Associate at Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies in the School of Medicine, University of North Carolina. His second postdoctoral training (2003-2004) was conducted at the School of Pharmacy, Texas Tech University HSC, and in 2004 was promoted to a Senior Research Associate. In 2009, Dr. Mdzinarishvili joined Northeast Ohio Medical University as an Assistant Professor of the College of Pharmacy. In January 2015, he was appointment as Assistant Professor at the University of Oklahoma HSC, College of Allied Health.

Dr. Mdzinarishvili has more than 30 years of experience in neuroscience, neuropharmacology, neurophysiology, and behavior physiology with specific training in different research areas. He has been published extensively throughout his career in peer reviewed journals. Dr. Mdzinarishvili is a Director of the Experimental Brain Stroke and Rehabilitation Research Lab. The lab utilizes MCAO brain stroke animal models and is developing novel treatment strategies. Using new pharmacological compounds, which could be used in the treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation of brain stroke and brain edema. In addition, the lab is focusing on the neural stem cells research under brain stroke conditions as well as novel drug delivery systems, such as nanoparticles.
